Italian Marketplace
As you travel north on Highway 121 to Sonoma from San Francisco, after you pass Infineon Raceway, you will see the terracotta colored roof of Viansa on a hillside to the right. It was started by Vicki and Sam Sebastiani, Vicki and Sam equals Vi-an-sa , although it is no longer owned by the Sebastiani family.
It is designed as an Italian villa. And comes complete with terraced vines, olive trees, tiles and of course, Italian grapes varietals like Vernaccia and Pinot Grigio. Their Pinot Grigio vines were some of the first to be planted in Carneros. They have a Deli/Market and picnic tables with wonderful views of Carneros and the bird sanctuary in the distance. They also do tours of the barrel caves below the tasting room.
Because of its location and style, this is a popular tour bus stop so we don’t recommend it in the busy season. If you drive in and there are buses lined up, it will be very busy inside, so head to Cline, Jacuzzi, or Schug instead. But, if they are not busy, especially in the off season, it's a great place to visit and the wines are surprisingly good and the views are stunning.
