Hi, I’m Ralph de Amicis, one of the co-authors of the Napa and Sonoma Wine Tour Apps. I’m a professional speaker and tour guide and co-author of 8 books on wine country so I qualify as a wine geek. And I have a huge enthusiasm for touring wine country.
Here are some hints about the Apps. Read the articles, they’re short and to the point and they offer our best tips. Read the section on touring strategies. Wine tourism is unique and to enjoy the most it helps to have the correct strategy. Basically it’s about balancing blood sugar levels and extending your tasting endurance.
Use the pre-planned tours as a basis. These are tours that I have done with clients and they are winners. Then adjust them to your interests. We have included 100’s of maps showing what other wineries are nearby so you can put a good tour together.
When you are planning where to stay we have articles that describe the plusses and minuses for each location. These are big, diverse agricultural counties, so deciding where to stay is going to shape the types of wines you sample.
We always suggest staying someplace where you can walk to dinner, or reach dinner with a very short drive. These country roads are dark at night and the bright days are going to rob you of your night vision.
The Apps have sorting functions that allow you to search by region and interest. You don’t want to spend the whole day in the car so planning a tour that includes connected regions is a great idea. Ideally the ride between wineries should be 15 minutes. If you need someone to drive you contact us for a tour.
