Carneros Gem
The Truchard family makes wonderful wines, complex, delicious and interesting, at their property in the hills of Carneros. They are open by appointment and it is not always the easiest tasting to arrange, because they are a busy winery with a large customer list, but it is worth the effort. They’ve owned the land since 1974 and started making their own wines in 1989.
They make a dozen wines including a Roussanne, which is unusual, and a Cabernet Sauvignon, which is rare in Carneros, an area generally considered too cool for this heat loving grape. The tasting room is basic, the caves are nice, dug into the hillside beneath the vineyards, and the hospitality is genuine.
