The Personal Touch
This is a small winery where Chris Loxton, the owner/winemaker is often pouring for you. As you enter, you walk past the winemaking equipment to reach the barrel room/tasting room. They have some nice, shaded picnic tables out front so bring a picnic.
The entire staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, partly because they don’t just pour, they also make wine. Chris is from an Australian grape growing family, and a former physics professor, so his winemaking style is informed and unique.
Visit during crush and you'll get your feet wet. No, you won’t be stomping grapes, but the crush pad is in front of the building, so you are going to be walking through juice on the way to your tasting. The staff, including Chris, is almost always willing to chat about the process as they work.
These are some great wines and they are only sold here! They also have one of the best Ports in the county. This is a favorite among many of the premium tour guides. Because they are not in distribution, they can ship almost everywhere.
