This is a very much a French-style winery, with good wines, a spacious tasting room, and good picnic spot on a hot day. It was founded in 1972 by an American businessman and a French winemaker. It is still owned by the original owners and the French flag flies beside the American in front of the winery.
Their Cabernet was one of the six Cabs chosen for the Judgment of Paris competition in 1976. Their neighbor, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars won.
Not surprisingly they are known for their Bordeaux blends, but locally they are respected for the their Pinot which they grow in the rolling hills of Carneros on the north side of Hwy 121, off of Old Sonoma Road. They are fun to visit during crush because the grape sorters are next to the tasting room and you see and smell the process.
They have Petanque Courts, some gifts, a very nice, olive tree shaded picnic area (the rest rooms are in a separate building next to the tables), and they do tours by appointment. AWG Rating 86
