This was the original site of the San Francisco Solano mission, the 21st and final Mission established in California. Later the mission was moved to the Sonoma Plaza. It is a great location and the grounds are expansive and park-like. They do tours, and have a bird and animal collection. They built a charming museum for antique scale models of the 21 Franciscan Missions.
The tasting room is homey and friendly, and very popular, especially late in the day, because they are on the right side of the road as people are leaving the valleys to return to the city. The wines are always good and they make a wide variety. Fred Cline was one of the first people in the area to use sheep grazing as part of their vineyard management which is not only ‘Green’ but cute.
The winery is run almost entirely on solar power and there is an educational display about how it works. The buildings are neat and you feel like you’re at a country farm. Cline is not to be missed.
