They are part of the Terlato Family Wineries who also own Rutherford Hill and Alderbook in Sonoma. They always do a good job of producing high quality wines and producing a satisfying tasting room experience. Be aware that this is a big winery experience, not a family operation where the winemaker is pouring for you. But the staff is pleasant, informative and the tasting room is pretty.
It is easy to spot from the Silverado Trail being big white, South African Dutch-style building that sits below the towering crags of Stags Leap. The original owner lived in South Africa for many years. The name comes from the golf course that preceded the winery.
Apparently, the original owner loved both wine and gold. They make big, Bordeaux style reds that are very popular in restaurants. Wines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Fumé Blanc, Rosé of Cabernet Franc. AWG Rating 87
