Ralph & Lahni de Amicis, Napa, Sonoma, San Francisco
A Day of for Big Ideas
On Sunday Lahni and I took the day off, kind of! We had been touring with Japanese clients in Napa on Friday, and some return clients on Saturday, and they were both long days for this early in the season, so we were a little beat. Later in the season when all of the touring muscles are toned up it’s easier to go day after day without letup, but this time of the year we’re still transitioning from writers mode to tour guide mode so…!
So, we only worked the morning, and then headed off to resolve phone issues at Sprint, and then a nice lunch at the Corner, a great burger place in Corte Madera. How a couple of burgers can lead to a $60 bill I don’t know, but boy it was good! It must have been the wine, a Ferrari Carano Fume Blanc that went wonderfully with a Sashimi quality tuna burger in a bowl, in other words on top of a salad. Lahni and I do the Paleo diet, and our own variation was the great sweet potato fries.
But I’m getting off the track here. My point is how smart my Lahni is. She knows how much I blog, daily when I can, and she knows how much I love working with international clients, it keeps me fresh. BIG IDEA! That’s when she said, “How about if you translate your blogs into your other languages?” Isn’t she smart?
One of the unique aspects of my blogs is that they are short and sweet, 300 to 500 words, trimmed for size, lean and clean prose, intended to be read on a smart phone. Well, I don’t know how much translation you’ve done (I’ve done more than my fair share), but that is the ideal document to translate. So starting now, actually yesterday, I’m also posting my blogs in some of my other languages.
By the way, in case you’ve ever wondered how I happen to speak five or six languages, work and study, and more work and study, over many years. Admittedly I love to learn languages and I have the ear, but more importantly I have the ‘Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread’ quality that allows me to experiment with a language even when the odds are that I’m going to sound like an idiot. But over time I speak the language better, and that’s the secret, my dedication to my goal, communication, may be greater than my pronunciation, and the former hopefully forgives the later.
